Sorry ladies---Suttle World has failed you as
well, but it does cover your game unlike today's online edition of the
Burlington Free Press. Woodstock 2 Montpelier 1. Another great run
for the Solons, and now on to the important stuff---hoops.
November 2
Sorry guys---I neglected to check if
Eric Greg was going to be your referee yesterday afternoon. Props to IV on
his tying goal, and I trust you will take great pride in a most successful
season. Of course, the story is far from over as the girls squad takes to
the pitch (see I know some of these soccer words) this afternoon in pursuit of
their Vermont State Championship. "Oh!/Win you girls from
Montpelier./Win you ladies from Montpelier...." More commentary also
on today's .
November 1
Big semi-final match for the boys
this afternoon. Comments can be found on today's
. Also props to IV for the link for
pics of both boys and girls squads. Behold the mighty Solons here.

Girls win! Girls win!
Solons take out Mt. Abraham on penalty kicks and advance to the semi-finals of
the Vermont Principals Association Girls Div 2 Championship tournament.
Still no pics, no rosters, no nuthin', save the tireless efforts of Suttle
World, Titlesite USA. Well, reckon the teams may have played some role as
well. On to victory (x2)!

We'll let the Burlington Free Press
do the heavy lifting this morning. IV and the boys upset top seeded Milton
while Kaitlin and the girls advance. Boys play their semi-final match
Tuesday against the winner of Bed and Breakfast and the German U boat crew,
while the girls play their quarter-final round tomorrow against Mt.
Abraham. 5 games collectively for the two, two titles in one! Now
everybody sing!: Win you Montpelier Solons/Win you Solons from
Montpelier... As always, pics, rosters, stats, etc... welcome.
MILTON -- Montpelier's Josh Mallery brought Milton's undefeated season to an abrupt end with his goal as time elapsed in the second overtime period, sending the Solons to a 2-1 upset of the Yellowjackets in the Division II high school boys soccer quarterfinals Thursday.
"I thought there was a second or two left," said Montpelier coach Gomer Morgan. "It doesn't sound like much but at that point in time, it's a lot."
"There was no time left but the horn wasn't blown; the refs weren't watching the clock," said disappointed Milton coach Glenn Button.
The No. 1 Yellowjackets (13-1-2) snapped a 0-0 score 20 minutes into the second half as Kory Holmes scored off a Micah Rose assist.
Two minutes later, Jim Lazenby struck for the Solons (11-5), Mallery assisting.
Then with time running out in the second overtime, Montpelier's Paul Waring sent a throw-in to Emmett FitzGerald, who served the ball back to
Waring. After a couple of dribbles, Waring sent the cross to Mallery, who settled the ball and ripped the game-winning shot home.
"We played very well," Morgan said. "Both teams played their hearts out and left it all on the field.
"We possessed well and we created more opportunities, but they had just as many dangerous ones as we had," Morgan said.
(3) Montpelier 3, (14) Randolph 0: At Montpelier, Meghan Cahoon scored two goals and Montpelier cruised into the quarterfinals.
Caitlin Morgan also scored for the Solons (13-1-1) while Kendra Dowlin made two saves.

Not sure if its my inability to read or
the weather, but both games are set for this afternoon. See below for the
match ups. More later. Go Solons!
October 26
OK, so I got it wrong and the Lady
Solons play their first post season match this afternoon---another lovely autumn
day in the Green Mountain State with game time temps expected around 40 with 20
mph winds and 1-3 inches of snow forecast. Even the robust New Englanders
have some trepidation regarding the conditions or so sayeth the Burlington Free
Press. Thursday is also game day for the Male Solons as they play their
quarterfinal match against top seeded Milton and their undefeated 12-0-2
record. This would seem to be the boys pivotal match, given the only other
teams in their half of the bracket are a Bed and Breakfast and the German
submarine U-32. The gentle surfer will note the above bracket links don't work
too well. You'll have to do some navigation of your own---its Div 2 boys
and girls soccer.
October 25
Peter Turley scores the only
goal necessary to propel the Montpelier Solons into the quarterfinal
round. Meanwhile, the third seeded Lady Solons take their 12-1-1 record
into the post season with their match this afternoon against Randolph without
regard to snow and "bitter cold." Given the big mo of the
school's first state basketball championship in over 50 years, more hardware for
the MHS trophy case seems inevitable.
