2004 WINNERS

SEPTEMBER 16, 2004

The distractions of light rain notwithstanding, I move bravely forward with creating a new Gene, the Caucasian, Pigskin Picks Page for 2004.  As noted in the , week I did not go the Caucasian's way, but that's why its a 17 week regular season, right?  Several whacky exotics look very tempting this week and will be discussed at length prior to Sunday's 1:00 kickoffs.  And while close doesn't count in this game, it is noteworthy that only two goal line turnovers by Jacksonville and Buffalo (one each) kept us away from the cashier's window---the other two parts of the teaser being the expected runaway winners.  A week to week accounting of all wagers shall be created shortly, suffice to say we're down $100 to date.

SEPTEMBER 19, 2004

OK...Got the tote board up. And though it looks sad, worry not my friend, as we make a big come back for week II.  And with the big board, comes the second Pick of the Week.  Yes, though tedious in its predictability we go back to the teaser.  We'll take the usual three team, six point variety.  These spreads are currently available at www.betgameday.com, of official wagering site of Adjusting for points---Carolina was overrated to begin with and now has injuries galore (much to my fantasy team's chagrin) so Kansas City giving .5 equates to taking the Chiefs straight up at home against a beat up Panther club.  Next we move to Dallas.  There is no cry to break up the Browns, there 30-3 thumping of Baltimore last week notwithstanding, still Dallas has too many cracks in too many places to lay an adjusted 11.5 points---we like the Brownies.  Games three is Monday night.  The Eagles are a better team, but not 9 adjusted points worth against a Minnesota team that is both underrated and able to score points o plenty.  Plus, September and new ball park or not, how many games in Philly have you seen turn into slugfests/defensive duels as opposed to shoot outs?---making Minnesota +9 that much more attractive.  This is the elixir the doctor ordered to get things in the black.

September 26

Yes, it been a slow start boys and girls, but cash an exotic this weekend and we're back to even. Soooo...we return to the trusty three team, six point teaser.  Its tempting to take the Cardinals and an adjusted 16 points against the Falcons, but the only thing more uncertain about wagering on the Falcons is taking the Cardinals, so we'll leave that one alone.  Instead we'll take an adjusted over 31 in the Cleveland/Giants.  Yeah, both are sub-mediocre teams, but they should be able to stumble around enough to put up over 31points.  The Caucasian  also like Tennessee at home against Jacksonville straight up (adjusted) and the 49ers +16 (adjusted) in Seattle.  These are tentative picks to say the least, but having promised a Pick of the Week....Don't think much real money will be on the table this Sunday.

October 3

With my leg problems, I have know business jumping off and on bandwagons this way, but I've caught up to the Carolina float and hope to ride it to a ticket cashing land.  Taking the Panthers +2.5 and over 32 for lots o reasons.  In short, Carolina is pretty good, the Falcons are still questionable, but the offense should find itself enough to get the over covered.  And though on the road, the teaser basically gives my New England straight up in Buffalo.  We'll see---last week was mighty ugly.

October 10

What can I say?  Well, I could say that my Pick of the Week this year has sucked like no other.  That's what I can say, and prod onward with the goal of breaking even now considered a successful year.  Same deal as always---3 team 6 point teaser; MIN +1.5 at HOU---you gotta like getting points with the Vikings against Houston.  DET @ ATL over 35 and BAL @ WAS over 28.  Keep in mind that even in the tough times like these your picks each week are free.  Those who wish to subscribe to bad advice, email me.

October 17

Whatever...the magic is gone, or seemingly so.  Nonetheless, the Caucasian is not a quitter; a bad handicapper, but not a quitter.  So here goes.  Hey, a couple good weeks and maybe we can get back to even.  Having some trouble with excel at present so here's the deal:  3 team 6 point teaser; SD +10.5 @ ATL, DEN +8 @ OAK, MIN +9.5 @ NO.

October 18

Double hoorah!  Season's first ticket cashed and Excel back and running.  Despite the handicap of time limits with regard to publishing this week, the Pick of the Week shall be posted---probably Tuesday evening.

October 31

Much like last year, travel interfered with posting last week's pick.  The Caucasian looks to get back close to even with a Halloween teaser (SSDD).

November 6

The stench of empty money bags fills the air as we move two week nine, having cashed but one pathetic ticket to date.  But I shall press on in earnest to see just how bad a seasons I can have.  Desperate times call for desperate measures, ergo this week's further exotic 4 team teaser---a Gene, The Caucasian first.  This week looks pretty good on paper----no doubt the same shitty paper used in seven of the eight times out of the gate.  Stiff upper lip and all.

November 21

Yeah its ugly, but push forward I shall as this weekend permits the opportunity.  Just the usual teaser.
